Our Impact.

Rescuing and treating the street dogs of Arusha and ensuring that they are brought up to good health and weight, vaccinated and wormed, sterilized, treated for any diseases or injuries and homed.

Sterilise

Urban Tails neuters or spays every animal that comes into our care in an effort to curb the number of unwanted litters, help protect against some serious health problems, and reduce many of the behavioural problems associated with the mating instinct.

Rescues also need medication for worms, treatment of existing injuries and illness, as well as vaccinations against dreaded diseases like parvovirus, distemper and rabies.

The costs for one animal are high.

Education

Rabies is still prevalent in Tanzania so mothers teach their children to stay away from all dogs. Dogs are at best tolerated, at worst despised, even shot or poisoned

We teach children the importance or water, food, shelter, medicine and exercise for their pets and the basics of dog behaviour to try and alleviate the fear that has been instilled in them. Bit by bit, we will try to change some long-established viewpoints so that the animals are treated in a more kind and caring way.

Shelter

All dogs need proper shelter and care, but it is especially important for senior dogs, puppies and small or short-haired breeds.

Homeless dogs have no choice but to survive in the open. With your help, Urban Tails can offer them a comfy bed, friends to play with, good food and the chance of a better future.

Outreach

As much as we would love to rescue every stray on the streets of Arusha, we simply do not have the capacity or funds to do so.

We go out into the community to feed and care for those animals who are surviving on the streets and remove those who are not. We also respond to calls for help from people concerned for the welfare of an animal and help any way we can.
